Salvation

“True repentance is a turning from sin
–a conscious, deliberate decision to leave sin behind
–and a conscious turning to God with a commitment to follow His will for our lives.
It is a change of direction, an alteration of attitudes, and a yielding of the will.”
 Billy Graham,
The Secret of Happiness (New York: Doubleday,  1955)

Matthew 4:18 – 22
NIV

As Jesus was walking beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two brothers, James son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called to them, and immediately, they left the boat and their father and followed him.”

Life is full of choices, what to eat, which cloths to wear, what radio station to listen to.   How much time do we take every day to make those choices?  It may only take a few minuets to make each one but if we were to add all the time together, in some cases it may be as much as an hour, two per day?

The Bible doesn’t say that Simon (Peter) or Andrew, called back to Jesus and said, Hold on let us think about it., or, Go on we will catch up. No it says “AT ONCE THEY LEFT THEIR NETS AND FOLLOWED HIM.”Even James and John who were with their father just followed Jesus leaving their father Zebedee to work the boat and nets alone.

Several times people tell Jesus “I will follow you, BUT FIRST….. “

We have a choice, we either follow Jesus or we reject Jesus.

When we make the choice to follow Christ there is NO “but first…….”

When we make the choice to be a Christian, we are also making the choice to leave our sins behind. We can not serve two masters. Therefore when we chose Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can no longer serve the “gods” of our old sin. It doesn’t matter if it is drugs, porn, alcohol, money, lust, pride, or any other form of sinful life. When we say yes to Christ we say no to sin.

When we make the choice to follow Jesus, the ruler of this world (Satan) will attach us with everything he has. He will level temptations at us to try and draw us back to the sinful life, we have chosen to leave. He will flood us will guilt and regrets trying to convince us that God could not possible forgive us for all the sin we have done.

Be assured that while there still may be worldly consequences for the things we have done, the Grace and Mercy that Jesus provided for us when he died on the cross, is far more then enough to atone for our sins in the eyes of God.

Things to think about:

Have you chosen to follow Christ?

 If you have not, Why?

Is the sinful life you are living really that rewarding?

Are those “rewards” going to last for eternity or just until some one else steals them from you?

If you have,Are you still holding up a finger trying to say hold on just let me…….?
or,
Are you leaving your sin and shame behind and following in faith?
